  • Wide business experience, to bring different perspectives to board discussions
  • Ability to see the implications of decisions and spot unintended adverse consequences
  • Knowledge of the right corporate governance procedures in contentious situations
  • Independence of thought
  • Empathy with fellow directors and the aims of the organisation
  • Analytical capability - reducing issues to the essential elements and extracting the right decisions
